Birthday Again!

I did henna at a birthday party last year for this girl, and she had me come back again this year for more. This time, less people to henna, but more intricate ones for the birthday girl and two others.

Fun Party

Another birthday party for a group of girls....

Saturday, May 30, 2009

This wedding henna party was so much fun! Shrim had booked me months in advance for this event. Megan and I hennaed all of these wonderful women in a few hours. Shrim had her hands and feet done. Her mom and sister had both of their hands done as well. It was great to have them all picking out elaborate ones, and one who hadn't been hennaed since her wedding many years ago. I was honored!

gecko girls, with beautiful designs

These three were about to go south to a wonderful island in a week, so they chose to each have a gecko on one hand, in addition to their beautiful designs! I added blue glitter to all of the designs. (click on the above photo to see it closer)

Disney bound...

This group was off to Disney the next week. I added a little Mickey Mouse head to each of the designs, and if you hunt, you will see them. Try to find the little Mickeys!

dress inspired

This girl's hands and dress were beautiful. I worked from a part of the design in her dress to create her henna.

This was at a birthday party and there were so many girls getting henna! I think I counted 17 hennas that I did.

Bollywood birthday party....

A fabulously themed party by a creative mom for her daughter. She found a woman to buy sarees from for a really good price, got the girls bangles, and bought throw pillows and more. She got great bargains, and the girls all had so much fun. They had a great tent set up with so many beautiful silks.

a great bollywood birthday party:

women on Vinalhaven

so much fun, and we will have to be doing it again sometime this fall!
They picked fun things, and really individual.
I did hear though that some of them went swimming in the quarry shortly afterwards though! (completely disregarding the fact that you should, a) leave the henna on for 4-6 hours, and b) that you should avoid water on it for at least that long if not much longer!)
I will just have to go back and henna them all again this fall!

always popular

This has been popular lately. I was inspired by the work of Carrie, as I will be working with her at a large indian wedding event. Her designs are beautiful.

This I did on a friend, and embellished it with glitter paste. She loved it!

better backgrounds

Again, I am inspired by another artist to work on taking photos of my henna work with better backgrounds. It makes such a difference. I am working on creating another photobook of my work too. I feel the old one, which I had been so proud of, is not nearly up to what I can do now! I love finding work that is inspiring and challenging myself to duplicate it.

fun henna party

I did a fun party and hennaed about a dozen women. They chose really diverse patterns, and it was fun to be there for 3 1/2 hours.

Inspired...

I was asked to join another henna artist at an event in a few weeks. I checked out her gallery and loved her work! I am inspired to practice some of the designs she has done. I also love that she photographs her work so well, and that I need to work on this aspect. She has beautiful backgrounds to set off her work. I would love to indulge in more silks and things to use as backdrops for photographing my work.

hands

I loved how this one came out on my friend Meg's hand.... I started it as one design, and kind of morphed it into another....

I thought it came out great... and it lasted for a while too.

then I did this one on my hand, as I wanted something under my ski mittens :)

for the party

I hennaed both of Lindsay's hands... left....and right....
(this pattern was inspired by a great little metal case that Lindsay had brought with her)
her mom's first henna....

I hennaed hands last night for a beautiful girl. Her name is Lindsay, she is in her 20's, and she recently was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. I have had the priviledge of meeting this young woman, who is taking on her disease with a fabulous attitude and she is determined to beat it, as I can imagine she will.

She is going to a wonderful place in Bloomfield (IMG) and she is doing all sorts of things to be proactive about helping her body rid itself of the disease. And she is the healthiest "sick" person I have ever seen.

When I met her a few weeks ago, we had talked aboout hennaing her head when/ if she lost her hair. She hasn't. So I hennaed her hands for a big party tonight that they are having for her. I am pleased to do henna for her.

this pattern was inspired by one I saw on Kenzi's website..... lacy and beautiful..... I loved creating it.
